How to enable Urdu/Arabic in Windows XP

If you want to enable multi-lingual environment (Urdu/Arabic languages etc.) Do the following steps.

Goto Control Panel as shown below













Double Click on "Regional and Language Options"






















Click on "Languages" Tab as show above




















Now make enable the check box saying "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages" (including Thai)

It will ask you to insert Windows XP CD in your CD-ROM. Insert CD into CD-ROM and give the path to i386 folder in your Windows XP CD. A wizard will run and copy necessary files and the setup will ask to re-start your computer.

Restart it

Enabling Phonetic Keyboard:

Now visit www.crulp.org and download Phonetic Keyboard for Windows XP from http://www.crulp.org/Downloads/localization/keyboards/CRULP_Urdu_Phonetic_kb_v1.1.zip and unzip it in some folder and run the setup.exe file.










It will install the phonetic keyboard.

Now again open "Regional and Language Options"
Open "Languages" Tab and click on "Details"





















It will open another windows as show below




















Click add and from the combo box select "Urdu" as input language and "CRULP Urdu Phonetic v1.1" as keyboard layout/IME.














Then click Ok to close all windows.

Now notice that there is a new icon for language options near clock in the lower right section of your desktop as shown below:











You can view both English and Urdu languages are enabled in your windows. You may switch between two languages simply pressing "Alt+Shift" key.
